Throughout his years of playing in various Twin Cities-based bands, MKA has always followed the status-quo rules in music: play it loud, play it fast, and play it with attitude. Usually citing his longtime Punk and Metal influences like the Misfits, Rollins Band, and Megadeth, his solo work draws from a different place:
"I was introduced to the Cure in back high school and it really struck a nerve. Not too much later I was buying albums by Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Christian Death. I never really clamped on to the whole 'goth' movement, but the music in that vein was something I quietly adored. I also discovered 'slo-core' bands like Low and Codeine. Sad songs have always been a musical passion of mine, and I've found that it's influenced just about every genre of music. People have been writing cryptic sad songs for hundreds of years. It's become an incredible outlet for me and my personal thoughts and beliefs."
MKA's song "The Devil and Mr. Williams" is featured on the Rozz Williams tribute CD The Tongue Achieves The Dialect, Volume 1, and his version of Shadow Project's "Epitaph" will be on The Tongue Achieves The Dialect, Volume 2. Volume 1 is currently available internationally, and both volumes will be available stateside fall of 2003. Check out www.rozznet.com for details.
